How are sensors connected?

Each environmental sensor from ServersCheck has its own IP address. It can get it through DHCP or you can set a fixed IP address using a small utility as referenced in the quick install guide. Each sensor requires a network cable to plug it into the network and an available power outlet for the small power adapter shipped with the sensor.

Centrally installed software then monitors all the sensors. It will retrieve the values using a TCP/IP connection to the IP address of the sensor on port 3001. That value is then compared against the thresholds you defined and will then generate an alert if needed be. The software runs on Windows based systems (XP/2000/2008) or you can also have it in a self contained appliance. The appliance is a small system with the Monitoring Software preloaded and is able to monitor up to 100 sensors (temperature and humidity sensors count as 2 sensors).
